Are your organic eggs coming from a factory farm?
Are your organic eggs actually organic? If you are purchasing from any of the companies listed with two eggs or less in the Cornucopia Institute’s Organic Egg Scorecard, it’s questionable. The newest report from the Insitute is called Scrambled Eggs: Separating Factory Farm Egg Production from Authentic Organic Agriculture. The purpose of the report is to help consumers distinguish between companies that are making the best efforts to comply with organic standards in egg production, and those who are just rubber stamping their cartons in order to sell eggs at a higher margin.
There are operators in the report who run “organic” factory farms with over 85,000 hens in one building. Hardly the best conditions for organic eggs. If you want to read the full report, you can download it here.
