The holidays are done, now it’s your turn.

The New Year is a blank slate, time to start new. Every year we make resolutions, many of which we don’t keep, this year instead of making a resolution you’ll drop we suggest you resolve to take care of you. This year should be about making small changes that make a big difference and setting yourself up for emotional, spiritual and physical success.

A part of this is also realizing that it’s ok to treat yourself! If you feel you need something to keep you motivated and help you on the right track, then go for it. Drop the guilt because this year is all about renewal and being the happiest and healthiest you ever.

You are a Priority

This year, you’ll hear a lot about self-care. This is an interesting one as it can’t be defined by one thing and it won’t be the same for everyone. The main goal of self-care? Focus on things that will contribute to your wellbeing and overall wellness. Remember we mentioned little changes earlier? This is where you can make the most of those making small choices that make a big difference. It can be as simple as making the effort to actually have lunch away from your desk and not think about work, you’ll get back energized and ready to finish the day strong. Challenge yourself to do something small for yourself every day, mix it up and make it different. Don’t forget, this is about your wellbeing, so don’t beat yourself up if you find yourself in a situation where you can’t get it done just resolve to try harder the next day.

 

Shut It Down

A lot of people tend to focus on diet and exercise for the new year, did you know that the easiest way to stay on track with your health goals is to be sure you’re sleeping. Yup, something as simple as getting more sleep can jumpstart you new year health kick. If you aren’t getting adequate sleep you’ll find it’s tougher to maintain your daily schedule. This means making an effort to decompress and prepare for a great night sleep. Make an effort to not touch your phone, read a book, take a bath or simply drink a cup of tea and mentally prepare for sleep. While getting a solid 7 to 9 hours a night is goal, what you sleep on can make a big difference to achieving this goal. Surround Yourself with Things That Make You Happy

Life is too short to spend it surrounded by things that drain you. Focus on things that make you feel loved and happy. This can even bleed into your personal relationships, the people you surround yourself with should fulfill you not drag you down. Choose to do things you want to do, and don’t feel bad about saying no to something that you don’t want to do. Don’t feel bad about treating yourself to something you truly want that will make you happy, if it’s within your means then why not go for it? Don’t feel the need to make excuses for why you want something, you being happy is reason enough. That is the core of self-care and being a self-giver, the happier you are the easier it will be for you to care for your family, get your job done and truly enjoy living this life.
