Lush Launches Campaign Against Animal Testing


Handmade cosmetics company Lush has launched a campaign to show how they are “Still Fighting Against Animal Testing.” While noting that they do not themselves test on animals or purchase ingredients from companies who do, they are calling on customers and concerned citizens to act now to stop this unnecessary and cruel practice.

As part of the campaign, they’re encouraging individuals to sign the Humane Society’s “Global Pledge to be Cruelty Free,” which calls for a federal ban on cosmetics testing on animals. A similar pledge for the European Union, calling for an EU-wide ban on the marketing of all animal-tested cosmetics, has already garnered almost 200,000 signatures.

They’re also asking global consumers to put their money where their mouths are and stop supporting businesses that use animal testing. As Lush points out, animal testing is not legally required for cosmetics in either the US or Canada, and thanks to advances in science, companies now have many non-animal testing methods available to them. By putting financial pressure on these companies and speaking out against the practice, consumers can force companies to comply in order to retain their business.
