Natural Windshield Washer Fluid
When it comes to cleaning windshields, most greenies “grin and bear” adding toxic chemicals to the waste stream in order to combat the forces of winter. Now you don’t have to. Products are out there that may not be as pure as the driven snow, but are at least making an attempt.
To start, you want to look for a methanol free product. Methanol is not only expensive, the emissions from it are toxic to both you and the planet. This is easier said than done – searching around the internet the only product that we could find was this one which is sold through Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire in Canada. They do not yet distribute their product through Wal-Mart in the US. Most US chain stores do have a “green” windshield washer fluid available.
Watch out for “make-your-own” recipes you may find on the internet – these may cause freezing on parts of your car that will be very expensive to replace.
How about vodka (does not freeze) ammonia and vinegar. Add a drop of two of liquid castille soap. I am not sure if the ingredients will hurt any hoses or parts. Does anyone know?
